After learning about the
struggles of the Lost Boys of Sudan, the students of BLMS have decided that they
would like to help Wadeng Wings of Hope (a non-profit organization) to build a
school in Sudan. Students will get doing a 15 hour fast on Friday as a fundraiser. We are looking to raise $5000 to buy a brick maker for the
organization, as they set out to build their first school! So far,
we have raised close to $1500. If you would like to contribute to the cause we
would be glad to accept your donations by contacting the school at 523-7160 and asking to speak to Ms. Gallivan.
On Dec. 11th, 2012 Charline Manuel, a representative from MADD Canada gave a wonderful presentation on the dangers of drinking and driving. Now Ms. Manuel would like to hear from you. She would appreciate any feedback from the students and staff of Bonar Law regarding her presentation. If you would like to mail her your comments please contact Mrs. Pitre for her mailing address. Thank you!Mrs. Pitre
Our cafeteria will be serving a traditional turkey dinner on Wednesday, Dec. 19th at a cost of $5.00. Given the effort required to prepare this special meal, it will be the only food option on that day.
Our Bengal Voices will be performing a Christmas Cantata at the United Church in Rexton on Wednesday and Thursday (Dec 12 and 13) @ 7:00pm. Admission is by a 'free-will' offering which will go towards future performances by the choir. We are also accepting donations of a non-perishable food item for the annual school food bank drive. DVD's of the performance will be available and proceeds from this will go towards the Restoration Fund at the United Church. Please join us for an evening of celebration through song, under the direction of Ms. Little.
Students listened closely when they had an opportunity on Tuesday Dec. 4th to hear about heart-wrenching childhood experiences so very different from their own. Mr. Jacob Deng, a survivor of civil war in southern Sudan, told how as a child his life was suddenly turned upside down by violence in his village. One of the“lost Boys of Sudan”, he became a refugee and had harrowing experiences moving from one refugee camp to another. He told of how he was able to piece together an education and was one of the very lucky ones to survive, eventually immigrating to Canada.

Our English 111 class will be hosting Jacob Deng, one of the "lost boys of Sudan", on Tuesday, December 4th @ 8:45am in the school theatre. Students have been studying the novel, "A Hare in the Elephant's Trunk" which outlines the life story of the young men of Sudan and the challenges they faced during the civil war in that country. This presentation promises to be an insightful window into the life of people who experience the horror of war as well as a testimony to the strength of the human spirit.
