This year, as part of
the SEVEC (Society for Educational Visits and Exchanges in Canada) program, Bonar Law Memorial School has been
paired with a school in Breton, Alberta. The students from Breton will be
visiting us for the first week of December, and we will fly to Breton in April
or May for week! This is a program
subsidized by the federal government so the cost of travel
is covered by them. When we are travelling, we will be doing a home-stay with our Albertan-twin, and they will stay with us when they
are here, which means costs of food and lodging will be minimal. There is
October is Farm to School Month and in our efforts to promote healthy eating and buy local we are going to offer some recipes, tips, budgeting, cooking etc...on our webpage. Stay tuned for upcoming recipes that incorporate fresh produce or fruit grown locally. We will offer some budgeting tips to help you stretch your dollar and some of our students are going to visit the local farms to see firsthand what is produced right here in our area.
Youth Health Services Schedule for 2014/15 has been posted under latest documents. Students requiring health services, this is available every second Thursday in a private setting behind the guidance area from 9am-1pm. Refer to the document for dates.
All grads should be aware that they are invited to attend the AARAO (Atlantic Association of Registrars and Admissions Officers) tour this year at Marcel-Francois-Richard School (MFR) on Sept. 24, 2014. This is an opportunity for students to speak with representatives from approximately 40 different colleges and universities. We will be leaving Bonar Law by bus at approximately 1:00 pm and returning at approximately 2:30 pm. Permission slips to attend will be going home today. Students will need to return their permission slip to the office by Sept. 23, in order to attend.
Yoga starts tonight at BLMS in the gym from 7-8:30ish...this is free for all BLMS students as we gear up for Yoga 110 coming second semester. The public is also welcome at a cost of $10 per class. Yoga will run every Monday and Thursday evening.
On Wednesday, September 17th BLMS is having an open house from 5pm to 6:30pm. Come meet your child’s teachers, tour the school and enjoy some delicious local corn on the cob. We are also honoring Bonar Law’s (Prime Minister of Great Britain 1922-1923) Birthday with a delicious birthday cake. There will also be a Grad information meeting in the theatre at 6:30 for parents/ guardians of 2015 graduates. Information on Rings, Photos, Fees and activities will be explained and handouts provided. There will also be PSSC Elections at 7pm in the theatre.
Our very own Advance Savings Credit Union will start up next Monday and Tuesday. Any student or staff member is welcome to use this service from 12:10-12:30. You can find us in the room outside the office (Mrs. Warman's Room). If you are a member of a credit union the service is there for you to use. Our Bengal Credit Union has been operating since the early 2000's. Withdrawal, check cashing, deposits (no debit machine) is available. We are going to keep track of how often this service is being utilized for a few weeks and then make the decision to either continue or cancel.
Grad photos will take place on Sept. 19, 22, 23, 29 and 30th. The appointment times will be posted on the office window and parents are welcome and encouraged to come in with your son/daughter to assist them with choosing their package/poses, etc. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact the school at 523-7160.
School pictures will be taken on Thursday, Sept. 11th. If you received a Media Release Form it must be returned by tomorrow in order for you to have your picture taken.
