This week, students will be completing their independent reading project (due Thursday). They will also be working on comprehension questions from 12 Angry Men, a play that we read in-class. All questions and activity sheets for the play will be due on Monday (December 3).

This week we will be continuing our unit on finding the surface area of complex 3-D shapes. 

- There will be homework (p. 40 Question 3de) due Tuesday

- There will be a worksheet due Thursday

- There will be a quiz on Thursday 

Students who need extra help can come at lunch on Monday or Tuesday at 12:30.

Students will complete their Venn Diagram comparing The Glass Castle novel to the film. 

Students will also be working on two assignments:

- Independent Reading Project due November 30

- Article of the Week due November 20

This week we will be starting to read the play, "12 Angry Men". Students can volunteer to read in class for participation points. Pre-reading and during reading activities will be completed in class. 

On Friday, we will have an independent reading day. Students will also have the chance to continue working on their Independent Reading Project. This will be due November 30.

This week students will be beginning the surface area unit. 

Homework (due Friday) includes p. 30 questions 4, 5a, 6a

Students can also submit corrections for their quiz and worksheets to improve their marks. These must be completed by Friday.

On Wednesday, students will be completing the test for the exponents unit. Monday and Tuesday will be review periods. This unit will be the final one included on the fall report card. On Thursday, students will be starting a new unit focusing on square roots and surface area. Students needing extra help can see me at lunch on Monday, Wednesday or Friday. Study block help is also available.

This week we are finishing our class novel, Indian Horse. We will be reviewing character traits and types, as well as theme. The Indian Horse final test will be on Thursday. Students should also be prepared to read independently on Friday.

This week, we will be continuing to read in The Glass Castle (up to page 242). Students will be required to answer discussion questions during classtime. On Friday, students will be completing a spelling and grammar activity followed by independent reading.

This week, we are continuing to read in the novel, The Glass Castle. Students will also be completing their third Article of the Week. This is due on Friday and requires students to make connections with self-driving cars. 

On Friday, students will have a vocabulary/spelling quiz. Friday is also independent reading day. Students will be required to fill out their reading portfolio logs.

On Wednesday, students will be completing a mid-book evaluation on their comprehension of the Indian Horse novel. On Thursday, students will be continuing to work on their writing assignment. Students need to have a draft completed by the beginning of class on Friday. 

On Friday, students will be required to read independently and complete their reading portfolio log. It is important that students also read at home so they can meet their reading goals.

This week in math we will be finishing up our first unit on rational numbers. Students will have homework for practice and will complete a test on Thursday. Students will need a scientific calculator for this unit and test. I am available at lunch on Wednesdays for students who do not complete homework or who need extra help. 

On Friday, we will be starting our next unit on exponents.

We will be continuing to read from our class novel, Indian Horse. Students will be required to work in discussion groups to create and respond to questions from the text. 

Students will work on their first writing activity this week and will need to reflect on residential schools and the impact they have had on Canadian First Nation peoples. 

On Friday, we will have independent reading day and students will complete their weekly reading log for their reading porfolio.

This week, we will be continuing to read in our class novel, The Glass Castle. We will discuss examples of figurative language in the text and students will use their understanding to complete their first writing assignment (Autobiographies) focusing on organization, word choice, and voice. More details will be provided in-class.

On Friday, students will be required to read independently and will need to fill out their weekly reading log for their portfolio. Students should be reading 15-20 minutes at home each night.

This week we will continue to learn about rational numbers and solving problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. 

Students will have textbook questions and a worksheet for homework this week. Extra help is available on Wednesday for those who need it. 

Our first unit test will be next week - tentatively October 4th.
