Well if you were not at BLMS on Dec. 2nd, then you missed out on an amazing basketball game.  The Bengals came out running & gunning and had Minto on the ropes.  The boys were excited and had the lead at the half, but Minto dug deep and fought their way back to take the lead late in the game.  Eventually the Bengals could not hang on and lost another close one 63-60.Tyler Augustine had another great game scoring 19pts, while team captain, Evan Grant added 17pts & Dalton Thompson netted 12pts.The boys are traveling to Grand Manan to play in their JV tournament over the weekend.

The Bengals played their first home game last night in front of a large crowd.  The Bengals seemed to be in foul trouble all night and had 3 starters foul out of the game!  The bench picked up the slack and kept the team in the game, but the Bengals fell short with a 85-77 loss.  Tyler Augustine led the team with 28 points, while Lance Augustine added 17 points with 2 big 3 pointers near the end of the game.  Dalton Thompson rounded things off with 12 points. The boys and girls will host Minto on Wednesday, Dec. 2.  Cost is $2 so come support your Bengal basketball teams.

The boys travelled to Cambridge-Narrows & Belleisle over the weekend and came away empty-handed with two heart breaking losses.  On Friday night the team lost by one point on a mix-up by the referees when they did not see Tyler Augustine's shot go in the hoop.  No one in the gym seemed to want to help and tell the referees what happened and the Bengals lost 80-79. Saturday morning came too early and the boys just couldn't find their feet or get into a rhythm against Belleisle.  The game resembled more of a rugby match than a basketball game, but the bench played extremely well.  Key contributors from the bench were Ian Scully, Francis LeBlanc & Corey Lawson. The boys will play their first home game Monday, Nov. 30, at 5:30pm against Caledonia.  Come out and support your Bengals.

The Boys basketball team travelled to Salisbury last night to play their first game of the season.  The Bengals found themselves down by 15 points at the half but managed to chip away and take the lead with 4 minutes left in the game.  Unfortunately the Bengals were unable to hold onto the lead and the JMA Cougers went on to win the game 87-76.   The Benglas were led by Tyler Augustine scoring 25 points, while Dalton Thompson added 19 points & Evan Grant 15 points.  Other strong performance were from James Simon, who led all players in rebounds & Lance Augustine with 5 steals.  Francis LeBlanc scored his first points as a Bengal on his first shot in the 2nd period.   The Boys will be traveling to Cambridge-Narrows on Friday and Belleisle Saturday.  Their first home game will be Monday, Nov. 30 at 5:30pm.  The cost is only $2, so come out and support the Bengals as they take on the Caledonia Tigers.

The boys basketball team will be travelling to Minto to play on Wed, Jan. 13th.  This game was rescheduled from Nov. 17, because the road was washed out between Harcourt & Chipman.  If you have any questions ask Mr. Woodburn.

I want to congratulate Evan Grant as our team captain.  He will be representing the team before each game and be an essential part of keeping the team motivated and informed throughout the season. I also want to welcome Adam Wood & Jack Hawkins as our team managers.  They will play a vital role assisting me in all practices and games.

First I want to thank all the boys who tried out for the basketball team.  It was great that I had 26 interested boys come out.  I hope that this is a sign of how strong our program is going to become.  Due to the large number at tryouts I did have to make cuts this year. Attached is the roster for the boys basketball team 2009-10.  I want to congratulate the boys who did make the team.  It is a long season and it will require a lot of work and dedication on your part.  I will be naming the team captain(s) at a later date.  If you have any questions contact Mr. Woodburn. All players MUST pay their athletic fee ($100) to Ms. Conroy before Mon, Nov. 16th.  If you are unable to pay the full amount contact the coach Mr. Woodburn.
