Here are some practice problems from class to get you ready for the quiz: Translating word problems into equations: 1.  Lisa is cooking muffins.  The recipe calls for 7 cups of sugar.  She has already put in 2 cups.  How many more cups does she need to put in?2.  How many packages of diapers can you buy with $40, if one package costs $8?3.  Last week Julia ran 30 more miles than Patty.  Julia ran 47 miles.  How many miles did Patty run? 4.  331 students went on a field trip.  Six buses were filled and 7 students travelled in cars.  How many students were in each bus?5.  The sum of three consecutive numbers is 72.  What are the numbers?6.  Jack spent half of his weekly allowance playing mini-golf.  To earn more money his parents let him wash the car for $4.  If he ended up with $12, what is his weekly allowance?   Solving for 'x' 1.  x - 3 = 4      5.  -12x + 4 = 100 2.  x - 7 = -1     6.  -7 + 4x = -15 3.  x - 10 = -3     7.  6x + 5x = -11 4.  -13x = -377     8.  -5(4x - 2) = -2(3 + 6x)   Graphing an equation 1.  y = x - 3 2.  y = 2x + 1 3.  y = 1/2 - 2 4.  2x - y = 3   Your quiz will consist of: 3 translating word problems into equations 4 solving for 'x' 2 graphing an equation
