SEVEC trip planned

Posted: October 9, 2013

This year, as part of the SEVEC (Society for Educational Visits and Exchanges in Canada) program, Bonar Law Memorial School has been paired with a school in Swift Current, Saskatchewan.  The students from Saskatchewan will be visiting us for a week, and we will fly to Swift Current for a week!   This is a program subsidized by the federal government so the cost of travel is covered by them.  When we are travelling, we will be doing a home-stay with our Saskatchewan twin, and they will stay with us when they are here, which means costs of food and lodging will be minimal.  There is a cost of $450 to cover the expenses of activities during the two weeks of exchanges, which can be fund-raised by you. The 25 participating students will be expected to help organize the trip, and host someone in their home.  ***Students who went on the exchange last year are eligible to go, but priority may be given to those who have not yet had the chance to go.***    Deadline: Wednesday, October 16th In 250 words or less, outline why you believe you should be part of the 2013/14 SEVEC exchange.  Please include the following:a)      Your motivation for wanting to be part of this experience;b)      What excites you the most about travelling to Saskatchewan and hosting students from Saskatchewan;c)       How you contribute to our school community (extracurricular, academics, attendance); and,d)      Anything that would help convince us that you would be a great selection to be part of this experience!******************************************************************************************************************Before applying, please consider the following:1.       It is expected that you will make arrangements to get caught up with all class work missed while hosting the group from Saskatchewan, and while travelling to Saskatchewan.  2.       You will be living with your paired ‘twin’ while in Saskatchewan, and your family will be hosting that same person in your home while they are visiting our area.3.       If you have poor attendance and/or you are not doing well academically, you may want to reconsider applying. 4.       All fundraising will be your responsibility.  We will not be organizing fundraisers for this trip.
