Grand Manan JV Tournament

Posted: December 7, 2009

The Grade 9 & 10 players from the boys basketball team traveled to Grand Manan to play in the Gary Green Invitational.  The Bengals had to play the home team first, and just getting off the boat did not help them come out with the start they wanted.  The boys lost to the Breakers 55-40. Saturday was a new day and Harvey was the first victim.  The Bengals came out running and beat the Harvey Lakers 68-48.  After the Harvey game the boys had to get ready for the Southern Victoria Vikings.  Instead of their normal warm-up, the Bengals saved their energy and tried to stay loose with a fun shoot around.  This must have worked because the Bengals could not be stopped and beat the Vikings 89-48. Dalton Thomson was named to the Tournament All-Star Team and Lance Augustine led all players in scoring for the tournament with 56 points in 3 games.  Other notables were JR Augustine, Corey Lawson & Travis Donaher all scored their first high school points.  The tournament was just what the doctor ordered for the Grade 9 & 10's as they developed some much needed confidence playing against other JV players.  This will help them be more prepared for their Varsity opponents.
