YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange

YMCA Summer Work Student Exchange is a national exchange program offering opportunities for youth to gain valuable work experience, explore another part of Canada, and improve their second official language skills at the minimal cost of $125.

SWSE is a six-week experiential learning program for 16 to 17 year old youth.  In Atlantic Canada, each English speaking participant is matched with a French-speaking participant from Quebec and the two youth are hosted in one another's homes to deepen their cultural experience.  Youth are also provided with a full-time summer job in the non-profit sector where they will be paid the provincial minimum wage.  During weekends and some evenings, the youth will join their Local YMCA Coordinator in group activities to explore their new community and form lasting friendships.

Adults can also participate in our program as alternate host families.  These volunteer host families take in a student on behalf of someone else, allowing students whose families cannot host, the opportunity to be a part of this amazing experience.
